December Reading Suggestion

28881 December is for many a time for remembering the birth of Jesus. Ever wondered what happened to the years between his birth and the start of the New Testament? Try Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore.

This hilarious (some no doubt call blasphemous) tale of Jesus of Nazareth (Josh to his friends) in his formative years is told from the perspective of his best friend, Biff. Two Jewish children growing up, playing in the dirt, trying to figure out girls amid the pressures of adolescence and Roman politics would be hard enough without the occasional miracle to muck things up. Biff follows Josh through his quest to become a worthy savior across continents, studying under priests, yogis, and during one memorable occasion, a yeti.

Moore’s brilliance is not only in his story telling but in his ability to bring humanity, humor and modern relevance to something most authors view as too hallowed to touch. Warning – adult language and themes.
